Annual summary reports – due date approaching

Publish date: 14 February 2024

Permit holders have until Tuesday 2 April 2024 to submit their 2023 period annual summary reports (ASRs) to New Zealand Petroleum and Minerals (NZP&M).

It is a legal requirement for petroleum and minerals permit holders to submit ASRs for every permit that was active in the previous calendar year – even if no activity took place.

Typically due on 31 March, this year permit holders have 2 extra days to accommodate for the Easter public holidays.

Guidance on how to submit your ASR can be found on our website.

The easiest way to submit ASRs is through the online permitting system (OPS). This is set up to ask you for the information required for your permit type and guides users through the process.

Permit holders who haven’t used the OPS before will need to register. This is easy to do. Simply fill in the form on the page linked to below.

Failure to file an ASR means permit holders are not complying with their permit conditions. This can have serious ramifications, including the revocation of a permit or a possible prosecution.

Reminder of changes to Tier 1 iwi engagement report requirements

A reminder that clearer expectations about how Tier 1 permit holders are required to engage with iwi and hapū, enacted through the Crown Minerals Amendment Act 2023, are now in operational effect.
